Michael Atherton
In 1983 he gained the Jack Hobbs Memorial Award as the Outstanding Schoolboy Cricketer at beneath-15 degree. In a (non-first-class) match against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1984 he took 6–27. Atherton did not have one of the best of starts in his international profession, beginning with a duck on debut in opposition to Australia in 1989. In 2012 Michael was guest artistic director for the Powerhouse Discovery Centre, composing music for public events, together with a spectacle for bikes, drum kits, synthesisers, brass and operatic voices. In 1993 he was appointed Foundation Chair in Music at Western Sydney University, the place his teaching and research targeted on present Australian music expressions. In 1998 he was elected to Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce.
International Career
